For an optimum viewing experience please peruse this site on a laptop, tablet or PC.
Anthony was born in the East End of Glasgow. He graduated from Glasgow School of Art (1982) and the Slade School of Fine Art (1985). Initially dividing his time between travelling and playing in bands, he eventually got a start in architecture in London in the early 90’s before moving on to Interior Architecture. He spent five years with Morey Smith Interior Architects as a concept designer during the practice’s formative period.
He has exhibited regularly over the years; see the bio below. He continues to paint daily in his studio deep in the beautiful Scottish countryside of Dumfries and Galloway.
Anthony's work features in numerous private collections.
Statement
"I paint from memory, fantasy, dreams and half remembered events, humanity and humour, often related to my past experiences of Glasgow. I create narrative threads that inform paintings in series or cycles. These cycles directly link the paintings both visually and conceptually with the aim of seducing and entertaining the viewer. When any cycle is shown together as an ‘installation’, my hope is to elicit the same cerebral reaction of discovery and physical yearning for involvement as I experienced when first confronted with Degas’ ballerinas as a nine-year-old in Kelvingrove. Meanwhile, I indulge in the all-consuming joyous activity of painting on a daily basis."
