Still Lifes

Currently, there are no still lives available.

I always have a couple of still lifes on the go in the studio. Painted simply for the sheer delight in using the medium, they are never informed by any grand theme or design. If I ever struggle with any other aspects of the work, it always pays to lose myself in the process of painting a still life. An instant salve and joyous reminder of why I do this.

Arrange a few objects; a jug, mug, couple of fabrics, some fruit, a plate… Then a charcoal sketch, first underpainting followed by a slow a process of layering up. Keeps me grounded and rarely fails!
